About Tai Chi

Thank you for visiting the home of Wuji Mind, where you will find information on Chen Tai Chi classes in the Broward County, Fort Lauderdale, Davie, and Hollywood, Florida area.

Taijiquan (Tai Chi) is a martial art that first originated in the Chen family village in China. Originally students of Chen Taiji learned the art in order to defend their village, but soon the obvious health benefits came to light. These days most people practice Taiji for health, however it is still alive and well as a martial art. You can explore either (or both) avenues.

Practicing Taiji is like peeling away the layers of an onion – the more you practice the deeper you go. From a physical perspective you will loosen the joints of your body, become more flexible, improve balance as well as stability, and learn to move with fluid like motion. Most of this is accomplished by learning and practicing “The Form”, a set of linked, low impact, circular movements.

From a Mind/Body perspective you will find that practicing Taiji is a powerful tool to reconnect with, or strengthen your connection between your mind and your body. You will learn to be “in the moment” with your body – in order to feel the subtleties of tension, release and weight distribution. In other words you will learn how to truely relax on a deep level, relieving yourself of stress.

There are numerous articles, reference materials and historical accounts that can give you a deeper understanding of Taiji and how it came to be on this site. I invite you to read and enjoy this information.

I began my experience with Taiji in 1993 and started training in Chen Style Taijiquan in 1996 when I had the great fortune to meet my instructor, Max Yan.

If you have any further questions please feel free to email me (taiji03@gmail.com) – I look forward to meeting you!
